In San Diego, sushi rolls and musubi come with sweet and savory longganisa
Longganisa is no longer an exclusive pair to sinangag. In San Diego, California, a Filipino-American-owned food business called Rolled Up is infusing Japanese classics with the sweet and savory flavor of our very own sausage.
Among its bestsellers poke bowl and another beloved signature fusion dish, sushi burrito, Rolled Up makes sushi rolls and even a version of musubi made with slices of longganisa with its caramelized exterior and garlicky pork filling.

Rolled Up owner Lorna Ramos is a second-generation Filipino-American born and raised in Paradise Hills. She is a graduate of business and criminal justice degrees, who somehow ended up in the medical field just like her mother. Her food business started as a side hustle that stemmed from her sushi and catering gigs.
From there, she was able to grow Rolled Up into a beloved Filipino-Japanese fusion food business in San Diego. While she still does sushi catering, Ramos’ Rolled Up, which opened in 2021, has become a fixture in the Filipino-American food circuit.

This Filipino-American History Month, Rolled Up is participating in the annual cultural event “So Sarap” happening on Oct. 14 at Waterfront Park in downtown San Diego.
Among the dishes they’re serving up this weekend are the longganisa musubi with banana ketchup and furikake that comes with a side of toyomansi crisp as well as a bluefin tuna kinilaw with coconut Kewpie mayo and calamansi rice vinegar.
