Fil-Am artists to celebrate Filipino heritage at Spotify showcase in NYC
We’re not even in the middle of October but the series of Filipino American History Month celebrations are here to fill up your calendar. Even Spotify is joining in on this month’s Fil-Am heritage celebration featuring artists with Pinoy blood in an upcoming series of shows in New York City.
In case you’ve been living under the rock, October isn’t just about pumpkin spice lattes and Halloween; it’s also Filipino American History Month. And Spotify is paying homage with a fun celebration to be held at SOB’s in New York City from Oct. 20 to 27.
The event promises a show hotter than the Manila sun as Fil-Am artists will take the stage throughout the week. Dubbed Jasmine Presents, the first-ever live showcase of Spotify’s “a genreless flagship playlist that highlights Asian and Pacific Islander music communities around the world” will see eight Filipino artists distill their heritage in music form.
“October is a special month to celebrate one of the first groups of Asian immigrants to immigrate to the United States. The vibrant and diverse Filipino community is highlighted in the breadth of our playlist and this year’s showcase, with talents in hip-hop, pop, electronic, and more,” says said Ronny Ho, Spotify Head of Dance and Electronic Development, in a release.

Kicking off the affairs is R&B singer-songwriter RINI on Oct. 20 before Ez Mil, arguably the hottest kid on the rap block after signing with Eminem and Dr. Dre, takes us for a ride into his universe on Oct. 23 with fellow rap artist MBNel.
“I can say that I’m very proud of my Filipino heritage and it’s evident with my songs I sing in the languages of the Philippines, like “Panalo,” says Ez Mil in the Spotify interview. “I also try to incorporate Filipino sounds and tribal instruments in my music.”
The day after, immerse into the blooming blend of Filipino folk and pop with Lyn Lapid and Ashley Mehta, then cap off the week with P-Lo’s brand of hip-hop on Oct. 26 and some organically alternative tunes with Mndsgn and No_4mat on Oct. 27.

“If there’s one aspect of Filipino culture I’d share with the world, it’d be the incredible music that so many Filipino artists make,” says Lapid. And why why not? Filipinos after all are largely musically-inclined (karaoke, anyone?) with notes running through their veins.
Excited to announce that @NellyNelMB will be joining @EzMil27 at @SOBs on October 23 for @SpotifyLive Jasmine Presents: Filipino Heritage Month!
