Fil-Ams in Arizona give ‘all-out’ support to PH teams in World Hip Hop Dance tilt
Leaders of the Filipino American community in the Tempe, Arizona area gave all-out support to Filipino teams participating in the World Hip Hop Dance Championship 2023.
The community provided sponsorships, donated Filipino food and healthy options as well as cheered the youthful dance teams in the annual competition.
The finals held Aug. 6 inside Arizona State University’s Mullet Arena in Tempe followed a week of elimination rounds held at the Arizona Grand Resort & Spa.
Coordinating support for some 180 Philippine delegates in attendance were community leaders Jhen Facto Aquino, Minnie Palis, Beverly De Leon, Ethel Luzario, Ihman Esturco, Charmel Dela Cruz, Fleur Magbanua and Jennifer Lewis, reported Chikka Magazine.

The magazine also reported that the community’s show of support for the Filipino hip hop dancers through sponsors and donations, has become an annual tradition.
The following teams competed across four divisions in HHI’s 2023 World Hip Hop Dance Championship:“Up Street Dance Crew” (MegaCrew Division); “Legit Status” (MegaCrew Division); “Legit Status” (JV MegaCrew Division); “Class E” (JV MegaCrew Division); “AKidz” (Varsity Division); “HQ” (Adult Division).
Filipino teams came out on top in the Megacrew and Adult Divisions with both “Legit Status” and “HQ” taking home championship gold medals. In addition, the “Up Street Dance Crew” won a bronze medal in the MegaCrew Division.
Coach Tank Bautista of the Legit Status MegaCrew, through Chikka Magazine, thanked Arizona’s Filipino community leaders for their “enormous generosity.”
