Rizal monument to be installed overlooking Niagara Falls
TORONTO – Attending the Niagara Fiesta Extravaganza and meeting the members the Filipino community in the city, Consul General Angelica C. Escalona also visited the City of Niagara Falls, NY on Aug. 6 to view the proposed site of a monument of Dr. Jose Rizal in a park overlooking Niagara Falls.
In his journey across North America, Rizal paused between two rocks on May 12, 1888 to view Niagara Falls from the Canadian side.

The National Historical Commission of the Philippines in 1998 donated a historical marker stating “The national hero of the Philippines visited this magnificent falls.”
The Filipino community in Niagara Falls worked for many years to secure approval for the monument’s as a symbol of friendship between Canada and the Philippines and a recognition of the many contributions Filipinos made in their adopted country.
