The Philippines, represented by the Blue Peacock Fireworks, will compete for the first time at the long-running Honda Celebration of Light on Saturday, July 29.
The Blue Peacock Fireworks, based in Sta. Maria, Bulacan, is regarded as one of the Philippines’ promising names in the pyrotechnic industry.
Blue Peacock’s show designer Robert Basihan said the show will tell the “story of how we got colonized, liberated and eventually gained our independence” from Spain, the US and Japan.
Backing the fireworks display will be an OPM (Original Pilipino Music) soundtrack by singer Angeline Quinto, titled “Choose Philippines.”
Australia’s fireworks entry took place Saturday, July 22 and Mexico’s last Wednesday, July 26.
“The annual Honda Celebration of Light is the longest running off-shore fireworks competition in the world and one of the largest events in Vancouver,” says Mayor Ken Sim.
“This event sparks joy and plays an important role in fostering a vibrant Vancouver. To ensure this event remains an enjoyable and safe experience for everyone, we will be working closely with our partners at the Park Board, Vancouver Police Department and Emergency Services.”
