2023 Oscars Host Jimmy Kimmel Reveals Plans to Handle Oscar Night Slappers
Jimmy Kimmel will host the 2023 Oscars. As he gears up for the job, he has shared his strategy for handling a challenging situation, such as the one faced by his predecessor, Chris Rock.
“Well, I size them up, and if I’m bigger than them, I beat the s*** out of them on television. And if it’s the Rock, I run,” Kimmel joked to The Hollywood Reporter.
Kimmel acknowledged that while these incidents can be amusing, they can also detract from the ceremony’s overall enjoyment for both the audience and the nominees.

Kimmel noted how he would address it on the night. The interviewer asked him if the infamous slap is “almost boring to joke about” now.
“Well, whatever I say about it, it’s going to have to be great, right?” he said. “Because so much has been said and so much focus on it.”
The TV host added, “I don’t want to make the whole monologue about that, but it would be ridiculous, not to mention it.”
The Highlight of the 2022 Oscars
Last year’s Oscars generated buzz when Will Smith slapped fellow actor Chris Rock for joking about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith’s shaved head.
Smith shouted at Rock, yelling, “Keep my wife’s name out of your f*****g mouth!” Smith apologized for his behavior, and the Oscars banned him and other Academy gatherings for 10 years.

This Year’s Oscars
It seems Kimmel will not let history repeat itself. He had witnessed an Oscars controversy, having hosted the awards show in 2017.
Back then, the host erroneously announced La La Land as the winner of Best Picture instead of the actual winner, Moonlight.
“Yeah, we got knocked down the list. It’s disappointing in a lot of ways,” Kimmel joked. “If you’re going to be part of a f*** up, it might as well be the biggest f*** up ever. Being part of the second-biggest f*** up doesn’t carry as much cachet.”
Kimmel will host the Oscars for the third time since 2018. He also expressed his “surprise” when the Academy asked him to host the show this year.
“I don’t know. It came out of the blue, and they got me at the right moment. I did wait a week to tell my wife. I thought she might react negatively, but she was very positive, so I said, ‘OK, yeah, I’ll do it.'”

However, Kimmel also stressed that he hoped the security team would be able to do their job without having to do it.
He wants to create an environment where everyone can enjoy the ceremony without disruptions.
He has also encouraged the audience to act as his eyes and ears. If they see anyone suspicious, they should alert a member of the security team, who can then investigate and take action if necessary.
The 2023 Oscars is one of the most highly anticipated events of the year, and with Kimmel, known for his quick wit and irreverent humor, returning as the host, fans eagerly await what he has in store.
