Lawyer Speaks Out: Andrew Tate’s Controversial Comments Part of ‘Character’ Act

/ 09:45 AM March 01, 2023

Social media influencer Andrew Tate plays an “Andrew Tate character,” saying things for “entertainment.” The public should not take it seriously, says his lawyer.

Many online users have criticized Tate’s comments as racist, sexist and homophobic. These have caused a stir on social media and led to calls for his removal from various platforms.

However, his lawyer, Tina Glandian, defended Tate. She is stating that people should not take his client’s comments seriously. And that they should see them as part of his “character.”

Andrew Tate, the “Entertainer”

Glandian called him a “free speech martyr” and said there is no proof of the allegations he is a detainee in Romania.

The Romanian court has endorsed a 30-day detention for the third time for the celebrity, held on suspicion of human trafficking and organized crime.

A spokesman for Romania’s anti-organized crime agency DIICOT said he lost his appeal on Monday against a judge’s decision of February 21 to push his third arrest for 30 days.

However, Glandian argues that Tate’s persona, which he describes as a “bad boy,” is integral to his brand and marketing strategy.

According to Glandian, Tate’s comments are intentionally provocative and to generate controversy. This helps keep him in the public eye and increase his social media following.

Glandian responded to a question on Wednesday on Times Radio if her client plays an “Andrew Tate character,” saying, “Yes, and it is not even just in my view, there is certainly interviews I have seen where Andrew has said, ‘I say a lot of things. It is satire.'”

“I have heard a lot of silly things. I have heard him talk about whether eggs are real. Or that he has existed for 5,000 years because there is a ninja warrior inside him.”

“He says lots of things as entertainment. It is his public persona, and those things are not all meant to be taken seriously.”

What We Know about the Case

The former kickboxer, now 36 and with 5.2 million followers on Twitter, got to the Bucharest court of appeal attached in handcuffs to his brother Tristan, also being held in the same case.

Ms. Glandian added in response to the allegations he faces in Romania, “There is no evidence on file of human trafficking.”

“No evidence of force or coercion, forced transport, forced labor, or any sort of deprivation of women’s liberty, which is at the heart of any human trafficking charge. They have been investigated for a long time and have not been charged.”

Tate’s lawyer has also suggested that the backlash against his client’s comments is part of a broader trend of “cancel culture,” where people are quick to criticize and ostracize individuals for their opinions.

While it is true that “cancel culture” can sometimes go too far, it is also important to hold public figures accountable for their words and actions.

When Times Radio asked about Andrew Tate’s comment that women bear responsibility for rape, Ms. Glandian insisted that much of what he has said has been “out of context.”

She said her client has often discussed “promoting loving, consensual relationships with women.” The lawyer also said she was not trying to remodel Tate as a feminist. But her client’s controversial comments are not evidence in a criminal investigation.

“We don’t prosecute rap artists because they say things about criminal activity. That’s not evidence of a crime. That’s not who they are as private people. And that’s not what should be considered evidence in a court of law,” she stated.
