US agency-PH to continue pact vs. job discrimination of Filipinos
WASHINGTON — The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) will continue working with the Philippine Embassy on educational efforts to prevent employment discrimination against Filipino nationals and Filipino Americans.
The decision to continue this effort came late last month when the two entities renewed a national memorandum of understanding (MOU) that was first signed in February of 2015. The MOU created a partnership between local consulates and EEOC field offices across the country to combat discrimination.
In a statement released by the EEOC upon renewal of the MOU, Philippine Ambassador to the United States José Manuel G. Romualdez said, “We value this partnership as a vital component of our efforts to assist the over 3.9 million Filipinos and Filipino Americans in the United States in protecting their rights and facilitating the creation of safer and fairer work environments.”
Under the renewed MOU, the agency and embassy will work to provide joint educational sessions and resources to Filipinos and Filipino Americans. These sessions will share information, guidance and access to educational resources that participants need to better understand and exercise their workplace rights.
