James Corden unbanned from a famous high-profile NYC restaurant

/ 09:11 AM October 18, 2022

Restaurateur and Balthazar owner Keith McNally has recently unbanned James Corden from his high-profile restaurant. He had accused the TV show host and actor of “abusive” behavior and revealed it in an Instagram post on Monday.

McNally said of the comedian, “James Corden is a hugely gifted comedian, but a tiny Cretin of a man,” in the post, saying that  Corden verbally abused one of their waiters.

Balthazar’s owner wrote, “He’s the most abusive customer to my Balthazar servers since the restaurant opened 25 years ago. I don’t often 86 a customer, but today I 86’d Corden. It did not make me laugh.” In addition, “86” is a restaurant slang that means ejecting customers who are not welcome.

Corden called McNally that day and apologized immensely, pushing McNally to lift the ban. The Balthazar owner then posted on Instagram later on Monday, “Having f––ked up myself more than most people, I strongly believe in second chances.” He even jokingly asked Corden if he could host his late-night comedy show before he encouraged him to visit his restaurant again.

McNally also wrote, But… anyone magnanimous enough to apologize to a deadbeat layabout like me (and my staff) doesn’t deserve to be banned from anywhere. All is Forgiven. xx”

James Corden’s Outburst

Moreover, McNally also posted a full-detailed explanation of Corden’s outburst in his restaurant. The restaurant’s manager reported that the TV show host asked for free drinks after finding a hair in his food.

According to the manager, Corden said, “Get us another round of drinks this second. And also take care of all of our drinks so far. This way, I won’t write nasty reviews on Yelp or anything like that.”

In another separate event, Corden and his wife Julia Carey dined at Balthazar on October 9. Carey ordered an egg yolk omelet and saw an egg white mixture on her order. The couple then informed the staff about the error.

The staff returned and mistakenly put in fries instead of the salad that Carey requested. Corden started “yelling like crazy.” According to the staff, Corden yelled, “You can’t do your job! You can’t do your job! Maybe I should go into the kitchen and cook the omelet myself!”

Then the manager gave the couple free champagne to ease the situation. Balthazar’s manager reported that Corden was nice to him but not their staff. Balthazar is a popular French restaurant in the NYC scene.

In addition, it’s a popular go-to restaurant of celebrities for its Epcot vibes, French staples, and onsite bakery. Nearly 1,500 people a day come to the restaurant to dine. It’s similarly popular to the Minetta Tavern and Café Luxembourg.
