All the upcoming Disney movies and shows revealed at D23 Expo 2022

Behold Disney fanatics; you’re in for some real treats. Disney recently held its D23 Expo 2022 last weekend in California. It was the first D23 Convention after the pandemic hits. Like an explorer displaying conquered treasures to the world, Disney also showcased tons of upcoming movies and shows from Lucasfilm, Marvel, its animated studios, and live-action. 

Disney fans who flocked to the convention had their first glimpse of the new releases. There’s something for everybody, as Disney certainly has much to offer. The movie company gave teasers of upcoming and promising projects from Disney+, Pixar, Walt Disney Studios, Marvel, 20th Century Studios, and LucasFilm. 

With the media presence at this huge event, they have caught all the hype of revelations and panel reunions. Here are the big announcements to glimpse what’s more to come this year and in the following years.

Star Wars: The Bad Patch

Although Star Wars: The Bad Patch release has been a while, Star Wars fans will rejoice. The D23 presentation also reveals the series will come back on January 4 for its new season. In addition, it will return with 16 episodes.

The Mandalorian season 3

Most Star Wars fanatics might be most excited by the new trailer of The Mandalorian season 3. Grogu, or as you know him, Baby Yoda, was all adorable in the trailer. Watch out for these Mandalorians when it returns to Disney Plus next year. 

Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi

Tales of the Jedi will include six stand-alone short episodes. It follows the story of Dooku and Ahsoka and will debut on Oct.26.

Ahsoka

A Tales of the Jedi original, Ahsoka, will have her independent live-action series. Rosario Dawson will play the role who is just the perfect fit for the role. This revelation also hints at the show’s connection to the CGI animated series Rebels. Although Disney didn’t confirm its release date, it will be out sometime in 2023.

Star Wars: The Skeleton Crew

D23 Expo also showed a glimpse of Star Wars: The Skeleton Crew. The ever-so-dashing Jude Law will play a significant role in this Disney Plus series. In addition, it’s a story about a group of youngsters lost in space.

Andor

Disney showed Andor’s last trailer before its three-episode premiere on Disney Plus on Sept. 21. Diego Luna will play Cassian Andor. The plot takes place five years before the events of Rogue One.

Willow

For the reason that every good character should have a revival, Disney complied. Lucasfilm is releasing a sequel series to the 1988 fantasy film Willow. Moreover, it was a George Lucas original and will stream on your Disney subscriptions on Nov.30.

Marvel Studios

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania

Although there wasn’t any public announcement, D23 attendees got their front-row seat view. Quantumania feature Jonathan Majors as the villain Kang. He will be in the next stage of MCU Universe and winding up in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Furthermore, Quantumania will come to theaters on February 17.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

Director Ryan Coogler showed an exclusive clip. It revealed how the international community would be after Wakanda supplies of vibranium. All this in the event of King T’Challa’s death. As expected, Wakanda’s all-female solid unit won’t let the issue go quickly. In addition, the movie’s release is on Nov.11.

Captain America: New World Order

It’s refreshing that there’s a new Captain America that will star Anthony Mackie. Isaiah Bradley and Joaquin Torres from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will be back. While Shira Haas will debut on MCU as Israeli superhero Sabra. Also, It will hit theaters on May 3, 2024.

Fantastic Four

Fantastic Four is also back with director Matt Shakman of Wandavision. It will come to theaters on Nov. 8, 2024. 

Thunderbolts

Thunderbolts is a dark superhero movie by director Jake Scheirer. Its lineup will include Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Red Guardian, Black Widow, Ghost, Winter Soldier, Taskmaster, and US Agent. It will hit theaters on July 26, 2024.

The Marvels

Ending up the D23 Marvel presentation is The Marvels. It’s a new film by director Nia DaCosta of Candyman. In addition, This movie will feature Ms. Marvel and will hit theaters on July 2028.

Marvel on Disney Plus

With heaps of new releases, Marvel has something up their sleeves at Disney Plus. Here are what’s coming at their streaming platform.

Echo

It’s no secret that people are thrilled about this upcoming Disney+ series, Echo. The story revolves around Maya Lopez on her Echo return after Hawkeye. Although there’s no release date yet, it will be out really soon, according to Cnet

Loki season two 

Loki season 2 premieres on Disney Plus in the summer of 2023. The exclusive trailer showed they would visit different periods following the season 1 finale. 

Daredevil

Daredevil is returning too with Daredevil: Born Again. Although it hasn’t begun filming yet, we know that the character will appear in an upcoming episode of She-Hulk.

Werewolf by Night

Werewolf by Night is MCU’s first Halloween special. You can watch it on Disney Plus on Oct. 7.

Secret Invasion

As part of D23’s announcements, Secret Invasion also dropped a trailer. With its star-studded cast, this may be MCU’s most prestigious casting. Starring Samuel L. Jackson, Don Cheadle, Martin Freeman, Olivia Coleman, Emilia Clarke, Kingsley Ben-Adir, and Cobie Smulders, it will premiere in 2023.

Armor Wars

If you can’t get enough of Don Cheadle at Secret Invasion, you might want to watch Armor Wars. Like Daredevil, it hasn’t started filming yet but will begin in 2023.

IronHeart

When IronHeart hits Disney Plus next year, prepare for a tech and magic battle. Anthony Ramos or Parker Robbins from The Hood will play the major role.

Walt Disney Studios

Here’s a list of what to watch for in Walt Disney Studios’ new releases.

Snow White

A live-action remake of Snow White is also in the works. It will cast West Side Story’s Rachel Zegler as the hero, and Gal Gadot will play the evil queen. It will be out in 2024. 

The Little Mermaid

D23 also boasted the first trailer for the live-action The Little Mermaid remake. Halle Bailey playas as Ariel. And the famous song Part of Your World played along with the clip. 

Hocus Pocus 2

In a slew of trailers is the Hocus Pocus 2, which will arrive on Disney Plus on Sept. 30.

Mufasa: The Lion King

The fans who attended the D23 Expo also saw the Mufasa: The Lion King trailer. It’s a prequel from Moonlight director Barry Jenkins. This film will feature the story of Simba’s father and will debut in 2024.

Haunted Mansion

If you’re a fan of the Disney theme parks and hotels, you’re in for some nostalgic experience with the movie Haunted Mansion. It was based on their famous ride. The film will also star Jamie Lee Curtis as Madame Leota. It was set to come out in 2023.

Peter Pan and Wendy

In addition to heaps of new Disney, releases are Peter Pan and Wendy. It will cast Jude Law as Captain Hook. It was set to stream on Disney Plus in 2023.

Disenchanted

Also in this category is the magical movie trailer for Disenchanted. It’s a sequel to 2007’s Enchanted. It will have a plot twist of turning Amy Adam’s Giselle into an antihero. In addition to the cast is Maya Rudolph. Disenchanted will hit Disney+ on November 24.

The Santa Clauses

Continuing from the Tim Allen trilogy is The Santa Clauses. On Nov.16, you’ll get a glimpse of its two-episode premiere. 

National Treasure: Edge of History

A derivative of the movie series is National treasure: Edge of History, which also has its first trailer. The first two episodes will debut in Disney Plus on Dec. 14.

Pixar Animation

While Disney was famous as a stand-alone in the entertainment industry, their Pixar part is also getting the same recognition. Here are Pixar’s upcoming releases.

Elemental

Although Pixar hasn’t released any trailers for D23 Expo 2022, it doesn’t mean they haven’t got something brewing. For starters is Elemental. It’s a movie about residents of various elements who joined together. It will hit the theaters on June 16. 

Win or Lose

Part of the series category is Pixar’s Win or Lose. Furthermore, this will also be Pixar’s first series. Will Forte stars as a coach. It will hit Disney+ in 2023.

Inside Out 2

A massive piece of news for us fans with huge emotions is the sequel of Inside Out. Pixar announced they are making this much-applauded film. But only Amy Poehler will come back as Joy. Bill Hader and Mindy Kaling won’t be members of the cast of Fear and Disgust. It will premiere in theaters in the summer of 2024.

Elio

Following Pixar’s Italian film is Luca. It’s a space-adventure theme that will premiere in 2024.

Walt Disney Animation Studios

The upcoming new releases for the animated series and movies are here.

Strange World

This animated film will come out just in time for Thanksgiving on Nov.23. Jake Gyllenhaal will star in this film. 

Zootopia+

In a set of new series releases, Zootopia+ will also hit Disney+ on Nov.9. The series will have six episodes with six stand-alone stories. 

Iwájú

In addition to the series that will hit Disney+ is Iwaju. It’s a unique Afro-futurist-themed series set in Lagos, Nigeria. Disney collaborated with the African entertainment company Kugali to make this series possible. 

Wish

Oscar winner Ariana DeBose stars in this new film. It highlights the story of the star from the Disney logo. In addition, it will feature songs from songwriter Julia Michaels. She is the brain behind some of Justine Bieber and Selena Gomez’s songs. It will debut in Nov. 2023.

20th Century Studios

Only one upcoming film is enough for 20th Century Studios’ new releases. Here’s what it is.

Avatar: The Way of Water

The 20th Century Studios only presented one movie at D23 Expo. But it was a huge one, and it was already enough. It was sure to be a big hit to fans and non-fans alike. Avatar: The Way of Water will hit theaters on Dec.16.
