Emmys 2022: Why Selena Gomez was snubbed and the TV series nominations list

/ 09:48 AM July 13, 2022

A variety of all sorts comprise the Emmy 2022 nominations. From international to groundbreaking, old to new, there’s a lot of drama in this year’s Emmys. With a bunch of standout new series, the Television Academy has also done the challenging task of recognizing the good old TV series.

On July 12, the list of 2022 Emmy nominations was announced. TV shows like “Ted Lasso,” “The White Lotus,” Hacks,” and also “Succession” received major acknowledgment from the Academy.

In addition, for the first time in Emmy’s history, they never announced which streaming platform or network was leading on their list, which left leading streaming Netflix and HBO scurrying to count their nominations for this year’s bragging rights.

The TV Academy reasoned that TV shows are the focus. Also, it was clear that “Succession” was the most nominated program of 2022, with 25 nods. “Ted Lasso” is next in line with 20 nominations, and then “The White Lotus” with 20 nominations and the most-recognized limited series.

Meanwhile, Selena Gomez’s co-stars Steve Martin and Martin Short in Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building” graced the list of Emmy nominees. Unfortunately, the influential star was not included as the lead actress in the comedy category.

In addition, Selena’s co-star Steve Martin said, “We’re a little stunned that Selena (Gomez) didn’t get nominated because she is so crucial to the trio, to the show. She kind of balances us.”

Despite her omission from the lead actress category, she was included among the team for outstanding comedy series. Moreover, this is not only an exceptional nomination, but it also marks the second time a Latina was a producing nomination for comedy series in the overall Emmy history of 74 years.

The Emmy Award Nominees

Furthermore, this is the first time that Emmy has planned with time slot restrictions for their award ceremony. Instead, the TV Academy focused on genres to identify that led to the Primetime, Daytime, and also the new Children’s and Family Emmys, among the other award ceremonies.

Emmy Awards was scheduled to air on Sept.12 on NBC and Peacock at 5 p.m. PT. Although the host for the award ceremonies wasn’t announced yet. Here is the complete list of the nominees below:
