Fil-Am lawyer wins ‘Miss Texas’ crown

Averie Danielle Bishop from Carrolton, Texas, became the first Asian American woman to win the title of Miss Texas in the pageant’s 85-year history.

A Filipino American lawyer, Averie Danielle Bishop from Carrolton, Texas, became the first Asian American woman to win the title of Miss Texas in the pageant’s 85-year history.

She will move on to compete for Miss America in December. As Miss Dallas, Bisop went through various rounds of interviews and nightly competitions in front of live audiences.

She won the overall preliminary talent competition with her rendition of “On My Own” from the musical Les Misérables.

Miss Texas put herself through college, earning a law degree from Southern Methodist in May 2022. As a content creator, Bishop has more than 800,000 TikTok followers.

Bishop said she sees her title as a great responsibility to promote diversity and inclusion and advocate against discrimination. She was named to the Dallas Mayor’s Anti-Hate & Discrimination Advisory Council last year.

“I am going to work tirelessly to promote small, minority-owned businesses, diversity and inclusion across public schools, and advocate for anti-hate and discrimination policy for the city of Dallas,” Bishop told Narcity.com.

Bishop and her mother, community leader Marevi Sabalilag Bishop, built Tulong Foundation, which provides livelihood and scholarships to poor children in their native village in Cotabato, Philippines.
