Ex-NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani assaulted while campaigning on Staten Island

/ 10:39 AM June 27, 2022

A grocery store employee at a supermarket on Staten Island attacked Rudy Giuliani. The New York Police Department officers confirmed that an employee at Shoprite slapped Giuliani in the mid-back.

On Sunday afternoon, the ex-mayor said, “This has to stop. This is getting ridiculous. I’ve been in politics for 50 years; I’ve never been attacked like this.”

On Sunday, Giuliani was campaigning with his son Andrew Giuliani for his gubernatorial race. According to him, he was walking at the grocery store when an employee suddenly slapped his back. The employee then made remarks about abortion.

Giuliani recalled the guy saying, “All of a sudden, I hear this guy say, ‘You’re a f*** scumbag,’ then he moves away so nobody can grab him.”

After the incident, the NYPD officials detained the 39-year-old Shoprite employee. He would face a second-degree assault charge for attacking a person over 65 years old.

Mr. Giuliani said, “The one thing that was political was you’re going to kill women, you’re going to kill women.” The former mayor, on the other hand, did understand what the employee was referencing. The remark is about the recent US Supreme Court’s overturn of the Roe v. Wade decision.

Giuliani added, “My back hurts, but otherwise, I can walk and stuff like that. He almost knocked me down. Thank God for a 78-year-old, I’m in pretty good shape.”

The ex-mayor’s son, Andrew Giuliani, said the incident was an “assault.” The younger Giuliani said that he and his father would “not be intimidated by left-wing attacks.”

Former mayor Giuliani said that the employee should be charged with the same policy that inspired “my broken windows theory” of policing.

Giuliani and the effects of his Trump alliance

Moreover, the surveillance video was all over the internet. It shows how the employee stopped to address the ex-mayor and walked away afterward. Although he appeared slightly startled, the incident didn’t affect him physically.

Giuliani confirmed that he had red marks on the back. But he was not bleeding. Also, he stayed standing on his feet after the employee struck him. He was planning to hand out fliers for his son Andrew.

Furthermore, Andrew Giuliani said that they would “not be intimidated by left-wing attacks.” He also referred to the incident as an “assault.”

Shoprite confirmed in a statement they were aware of the incident. The grocery store chain also clarified that they have “zero tolerance for aggression toward anyone.”

A Republican himself, Giuliani was also Donald Trump’s lawyer. He had a complicated history regarding abortion rights. At first, he was against it, then supporting it, then reversing it again.

Last week, he mentioned on his radio program that he had gone through “a torturous, intellectual, and emotional and moral situation with abortion” before finally confirming that he opposed it.

Moreover, Giuliani was also under severe scrutiny for his role in Trump’s plan to overturn the 2020 election results. This Jan. 6, 2021, incident brought about the chaotic riot at the US Capitol. Although in an interview, he condemns political violence.
