Hawaii nurses get lowest pay in U.S. when weighed against cost of living

The average salary for nurses in Hawaii is currently about $104,800, but nurses say their earnings feel more like $55,100 after paying expenses needed to live in the state

Nurses in Hawaii earn a lot on paper, but they actually get the lowest salaries in the U.S. when weighed with the high cost of living in the islands, according to a new report from  nursing industry website SimpleNursing.

The average salary for nurses in Hawaii is currently about $104,800, but nurses say their earnings feel more like $55,100 after paying expenses needed to live in the state.

SimpleNursing also reported:

  • The top eight cities with the highest salaries for registered nurses are located in California.
  • Nurses in Florida earn $33 per hour, on average, which is $4 less an hour than the average nursing hourly wage.
  • Male nurses earn $18K more yearly, on average, than female nurses.
