First Filipino bakery in Halifax, Nova Scotia off to a tasty start

The bakery has been Sharon De Leon’s dream since she became a chef over 25 years ago.
Halifax, Nova Scotia now has its first Filipino bakery, Tinápe Artisan Bread & Cakes, which was opened late last year by longtime chef Sharon De Leone.
De Leon was working a full-time job in a restaurant and a side hustle baking traditional Filipino bread and sweets out of her home kitchen, according to Renee Fournier of eatnorth.com.
Staying up until early morning filling orders from friends for specialty cakes and ensaymada from her home kitchen became unmanageable, so she opened Tinápe, located below an unassuming apartment building.
Tinápe’s ensaymada, pandesal, sans rival balls with French buttercream and roasted cashews are becoming popular not just among Filipinos.
