Just how mild: Does Delta-8 get users high?

/ 09:35 AM February 28, 2022

Delta-8 THC has become the latest celebrity in the North American hemp market. Arguably, the reason delta-8 is so famous has to do with its “scandalous” psychoactive features. For many customers, hemp-derived delta-8 is a sneaky way to experience some of delta-9 THC’s effects.

So, does that mean delta-8 THC will make users feel “high?”

Although delta-8 has intoxicating properties, most resorts suggest it doesn’t offer the same experience as illegal marijuana.

There’s little scientific research into delta-8’s effects so far, but most researchers agree this cannabinoid binds with the ECS’s CB1 receptors. Similar to delta-9 THC, delta-8 appears to induce psychoactive effects. In other words, people who take delta-8 will likely feel some sort of “high.”

However, the quality of delta-8’s “high” seems to have a distinctly sedative quality. Most anecdotal testimonies suggest delta-8 induces relaxing and body-focused effects. It’s more likely delta-8 will put users in a sleepy mood than get them pumped and energized.

For this reason, most customers only take delta-8 THC after dinner. While micro-dosing delta-8 during the day could reduce stress, there’s a chance this cannabinoid could impede productivity. Even at moderate doses, delta-8 may make some consumers feel ready for a “cat nap.”

New customers should test delta-8 products later in the day when they have nothing on their schedule. After a few nighttime sessions, you should know how much delta-8 is too much for your system.

Is Delta-8 THC Less Psychoactive Versus Delta-9 THC?

Most hemp enthusiasts report that delta-8 is the “diet” version of delta-9. In fact, a recent survey out of the University of Buffalo found that most delta-8 users didn’t experience side effects like paranoia or excessive anxiety. While this data is preliminary, it suggests delta-8 offers some of delta-9’s properties without the latter’s intensity.

Supposedly, the unique placement of delta-8’s double-bond prevents it from triggering the same psychoactive response as delta-9. At this point, however, we need more evidence to prove this theory.

All that we know for sure is that most customers who compare delta-8 vs. delta-9 state the former is less psychoactive. This doesn’t mean delta-8 can’t provoke paranoia, but it may mean delta-8 has a lower risk profile.

For The Safest Delta-8 Experience, Always Track Down Third-Party Tests

Please remember that the FDA doesn’t regulate the US delta-8 market. The only way customers could ensure their delta-8 extracts produce the intended “high” is to ask their company for third-party lab testing results. These Certificates of Analysis are an essential part of hemp industry transparency.

With these tests in hand, you could verify your hemp products have the legal THC levels (i.e., ≤ 0.3 percent delta-9 THC). Reputable third-party labs should also scan for heavy metals, solvent residue, and potentially harmful additives.
