Longtime Democratic Party stalwart Melissa Ramoso is now the first Filipino and Asian American woman mayor of Artesia, California.
The Southeast LA County town of 17,000 is about 10% Filipino, with many Filipino-owned small businesses.
Ramoso has worked for several lawmakers and has been active in a number of Filipino American Democratic groups.
