Filipino charged with murder in shooting that killed 2 in Guam
A Filipino in Guam was charged with two counts of murder after shooting to death two men with whom he had a fight.
Joseph Nicholas Sagdal, 24, was charged Tuesday, December 19 with two counts of aggravated murder as a first-degree felony, with a special allegation of use of a deadly weapon in the commission of a felony, the complaint states.
Sagdal allegedly shot to death A.V. Mwarecheong, 25, and Brokey Thamaso, 18, after a fight at Hemlani’s Apartments in Harmon on Sunday, December 17.
After one of four men shot Saqdal in the face with a slingshot during an argument, the men drove away with Sagdal giving chase in his car.
One of the men said that Sagdal pulled up alongside their car and started shooting at them, hitting Mwarecheong and Thamaso.
Sagdal, who said he was as a shooting instructor, told police, “I felt as though I shouldn’t have used my gun in this situation, but I was afraid for my life. I regret not resolving this another way,” according to a report by the Pacific Daily News.
A handgun registered to Sagdal, a 9 mm Canik TP-9, was confiscated, according to court documents.
Judge Benjamin Sison Jr. set Sagdal’s bail at $500,000 cash, as requested by prosecutors.
