How photography has led Gregory Piper to incredible destinations and undiscovered dive spots
Taking a picture and freezing the moment to create a lasting image of the scenery reveals how rich reality is. Pictures help us virtually tour the planet and uncover the undiscovered worlds while marveling at nature.
Photographer Greg Piper is one of the individuals showing the realities of the world through pictures. He is not your ordinary photo man but a skilled, award-winning underwater and nature photographer. Greg is a celebrated marine photographer who has helped the world see some of the wonders of undiscovered dive spots.
Greg’s incredible images have dominated the pages of some of the world’s top marine publications, scuba diving journals, nature publications, and media outlets. His exceptional camera work has also caught the eyes of global international media, including the BBC, Discovery Channel, National Geographic, and many others. The prolific diver and photographer has also written articles for the Dive magazine, shedding light on ethical photography.
Greg’s love for photography started at a young age, and he was fascinated with everything to do with pictures. He became a passionate artist, drawing and making paintings, earning his first money from airbrushing jean jackets back in the ’80s. Art would later lead him into a successful career in the tattoo world, a job he still holds dear to his heart.
However, his love and passion for photography drew back to his lifelong hobby and he has never turned back since then. He has always had a camera by his side throughout his entire adulthood, capturing every adventure. Greg’s passion for exploration and living life on the edge meant moving from one place to another and increased use of the camera.
Joining the army opened up the opportunity for him to fulfill his childhood dream of traveling to different destinations and getting to explore the wonders of the world while capturing lasting memories. He has traversed the world as an army officer while still practicing his hobby of capturing stunning images from different locations.
Greg discovered his love for scuba diving in 2008 during a summer family holiday. He went for a dive in the afternoon and that entirely changed his life. The discovery was fascinating, and Greg could not contain his excitement. He went straight into a new career and has since made over 4,800 dives. Amazingly, most of his dives have been logged in the world’s top and undiscovered dive destinations. Greg acquired an underwater camera for him to merge his newfound hobby with photography.
Combining the two hobbies opened up another new career for Greg. He turned his focus to discover, understand, document, and educate the masses about the wonders of sea wildlife and conservation measures. This includes showcasing the undiscovered dive spots around the world in search of the next great dive location. Greg has also established a unique, hands-on photography workshop that mixes education about wildlife and conservation.
Greg also uses his social media platform to share the underwater world to inspire and empower more people to chase their dreams.
