Lebron James is benched indefinitely due to COVID situation

/ 10:43 AM December 02, 2021

After undergoing NBA’s health and safety protocols, LA Lakers star player LeBron James will be out of the game indefinitely. While it’s confirmed that James was fully vaccinated, the NBA star got a positive result for the Covid-19 test.

While this would register Lebron James as the most prominent athlete to catch the virus, his teammate Anthony Davis said that James was asymptomatic. Anthony Davis took over James’ duty as the LA Lakers’ leader. He told reporters that “Covid is a scary thing”.

While the Lakers have not yet announced any confirmation about the NBA star’s status, TMZ and The Wall Street already reported that Lebron James had tested positive for COVID. As per NBA’s Covid protocols, the star player was taken out of the games. He’ll be out of the games for at least 10 days.

Anthony Davis said, “He says he’s good,” on Tuesday night after his last game. “I think he said he’s asymptomatic, which is a good sign. We want to make sure that he gets back. Health is most important, you know? It’s bigger than basketball. He has a family.”

As TMZ reported, LeBron James took three Covid tests. With two positive results and one negative result, which the Lakers team hasn’t confirmed yet. While this comes as a huge blow to the Lakers, they have defeated Sacramento Kings at 117-92 on Tuesday’s match.

NBA Protocols

The NBA lets individual players announce test results. When a player tests positive, they’ll be out of the game for 10 days or until they register a negative result 24 hours in between.

LA Lakers coach Frank Vogel said, “Health and safety protocols, that’s all I can say. Hopefully, this is something that’s short-term. We’ll see.”

While Lebron James had confirmed that he was fully vaccinated, he never encouraged anybody to get the vaccine. Though currently, almost 97% of the NBA players are fully vaccinated.

LeBron James has already missed a lot this season following his suspension and minor injuries. There are three more games lined up for the 10 days that he’ll be out.

His teammate Davis added, “Brown has been out with injuries and now also with the Covid situation, so it’s a good test for me. It’s a good experience for me to lead these guys, and the good thing about it is, I have other vets on my side who’ve been in the game for a while to help me through the obstacles.”
