Urban Dictionary is trending – here’s why
A new hype has all the social media users heading on to Urban Dictionary and searching for their names. If you haven’t hopped on the bandwagon, prepare to be amused.
Although some of the results in Urban Dictionary aren’t complimentary, it brings fun and humor to name definitions. Some of the results are surprisingly hilarious but some of them also match some of the reader’s personalities. It seems realistic to some, making the reader amused.
Aaron Peckham founded Urban Dictionary in 1999 as a slang word dictionary. After a few years, the website has grown to include meanings and definitions of almost anything. Unlike other definition sources, the results are entries uploaded by internet users.

While the popularity graced the social media giants Twitter and Instagram, it wasn’t a surprise that social media users flock to the site and search their names on Urban Dictionary. The honesty of some of the definitions from flattery to a hilarious type of subtle criticism.
But Urban Dictionary also provides definitions of all sorts like politics, video games, and many more. For example, the Netflix show “Bridgerton” has a definition of “Basically Gossip Girl based 300 years ago.”
The Hype
As users explore, names also have both scientific and random definitions on Urban Dictionary. According to the site, the name David means “The greatest man you’ll ever have the privilege to know”. Other user-submitted definitions of David are “the most charismatic person you’ll ever meet,” and the “epitome of a gentleman.”

While the list of definitions goes a long way, thousands of users shared their findings on Twitter. A user named Samantha posted a screenshot of her name definition which describes her name as “a very exotic type of female”. She captioned, “But who wrote this? I need to know why they exposed me.”

Although many people were entertained with their names definitions, others said that most of the entries are positive or repetitively saying things.

Moreover, some others are criticizing the trend and those who shared their screenshots. Someone even tweeted, “I promise you we don’t care what your name means on Urban Dictionary.”
