Filipino center in Maui sets another Bayanihan drive-through food giveaway
MAUI, Hawaii – Binhi at Ani Filipino Community Center in Kahului is holding the 11th Bayanihan Food Distribution of the year on Saturday, Nov. 13 at the center.
“Even though many residents are back to work, there is still a need for food assistance,” said Melen Agcolicol, president of Binhi at Ani.
“We want to thank our sponsors and volunteers for their support as well as our neighbors for their patience. Since its start in May 2020, the Bayanihan Food Distribution has raised over $43,000, enabling the distribution of 7,493 food boxes.”
The Nov. 13 drive-through food distribution is open to the public and runs from 9 a.m. until the supplies of 500 food boxes and hot food are exhausted.
The distribution is at 780 Onehee Ave. across from Maui Waena School. For traffic flow purposes, vehicles must enter Onehee Avenue by turning right from South Papa Avenue.
Kea Street between Papa Avenue and Holua Drive will be closed from 7 a.m. through 12:30 p.m. (Please do not block driveways; and line up as directed by the Maui Police Department.)
The Bayanihan Food Distribution is spearheaded by Binhi at Ani and co-sponsored by Bayer Crop Science Hawaiʻi, Maui Food Bank, the County of Maui, Pyramid Insurance and Maui Gold Pineapple. It is staffed by hundreds of volunteers.
