Book with 60 Filipino artists to be published in 2018
ST. LOUIS, Missouri — An annual publication dedicated to artists of Filipino heritage living and working in the United States and the Philippines, with a focus on artists based in the US Midwest and South, will be released next year.
The Filipino American Artist Directory is an independent, artist-run initiative. This year’s directory features 60 artists, curators and writers representing 28 cities in 12 states, as well as the Philippines and Canada.
Inspired by the book The Decolonized Eye by Sarita Echavez See, the project was founded in 2015 by St. Louis-based artist Janna Añonuevo Langholz. It aims to:
- Increase the visibility and recognition of Filipino American visual artists and promote their inclusion in museums, galleries, collections and publications;
- Serve as an educational resource for students and teachers;
- Create community between artists, curators and writers;
