The ESPY award winners in 2021
Following the virtual presentation in 2020, the 2021 ESPY Awards, ESPN’s annual celebration of all things sports, returned to New York on Saturday with an in-person ceremony.
Individual and team honors were reinstated during this year’s ESPYs. Anthony Mackie presented after they were axed in 2020 due to the coronavirus epidemic, which put many seasons on hold or canceled entirely.
Some 2021 ESPY winners include:

- Best coach: Tara VanDerveer, Stanford women’s basketball coach who passed Pat Summitt on the wins list and led Cardinal to 2021 national title
- The Best college athlete, men’s sports: DeVonta Smith, Heisman Trophy-winning wide receiver from Alabama
- The best college athlete, women’s sports: Paige Bueckers, star freshman for UConn women’s basketball team
- Best NBA Player: Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors

- Best WNBA player: Breanna Stewart of the Seattle Storm
- The Best NFL player: Tom Brady, Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB
- Best MLB player: Shohei Ohtani, Los Angeles Angels DH and pitcher
- Best NHL player: Patrick Kane, Chicago Blackhawks winger
- The Best international athlete in women’s soccer: Samantha Mewis
- Best international athlete in men’s soccer: Cristiano Ronaldo
