Las Vegas mass killer was verbally abusive to Filipina girlfriend in public
SAN FRANCISCO — Investigators are examining a $100,000 wire transfer Las Vegas gunman Stephen Paddock sent to an account in the Philippines that “appears to have been intended” for his girlfriend Marilou Danley, a senior U.S. homeland security official told Reuters on Tuesday.
Law enforcement authorities hope to get some answers from Danley, who returned to the U.S. Tuesday night and was met by FBI agents at the airport in Los Angeles.
Meanwhile, Starbucks employees who served cappuccinos to Paddock at a Mesquite, Nevada, casino said he treated abusively.
Esperanza Mendoza, supervisor of the Starbucks in the Virgin River Casino, told the Los Angeles Times that workers knew Paddock because he would often verbally berate Danley in front of them.
Mendoza described one encounter in which Danley asked Paddock if she could use his casino card to buy their drinks.
“He would glare down at her and say — with a mean attitude — ‘You don’t need my casino card for this. I’m paying for your drink, just like I’m paying for you.’ Then she would softly say, ‘OK’ and step back behind him,” Mendoza said. “He was so rude to her in front of us.”
