PS5: Playstation 5 Release Date

07:52 AM July 30, 2019

The Sony PS5 will soon be released and the PlayStation Console will be better, bigger and more powerful than any other PlayStations before it. No matter what you call it, PlayStation 5, PS5 or any other name, it is sure that the console is on its way.

It is almost half a decade since PlayStation 4 was introduced. Since then, there has been no new hardware. But, the CEO of the company has affirmed that the new device will be released soon.

We are going to give you the confirmed specifications as well as those that have not been substantiated.

PS5 Specifications

The console will come with lots of long-awaited improvement; it is going to feature a Solid State Drive (SSD) with a “system memory increase” that has not been revealed. The advantage of the SSD feature is an increase in playtime as well as a fewer loading screen.

With this feature, you can render Red Dead Redemption 2 and Spider-Man in a fraction of the time. One demerit of this feature is that it can be very costly, which could significantly increase the cost of the console.

Other confirmed specifications of the PS5 are the GraphicalProcessing Unit (GPU) and the Central Processing Unit (CPU). The two will be made by semiconductor giant AMD. The GPU is expected to support ‘ray tracking.’. The advantage of ‘ray tracing’ technology is that it makes standard and VR games appear life-like.

The PlayStation 5 will also be designed to support 8K resolution. The only setback here is that 8k TV is expensive, but the introduction of the 8k resolution is the right way of preparing the console for the future.
The last confirmed specification is the usual CPU upgrade. This upgrade will be based on the third generation of the AMD’s Ryzen line that comprises cores powering the 7-nanometer Zen2 microarchitecture of the company.

PS5 Unconfirmed Specifications

Some of the leaked PS5 details have not been confirmed, but they could still be true because most of the unconfirmed specifications are actually some of what people are expecting.

One of these unconfirmed specifications is that the PS5 will come with a graphical capacity that doubles that of the PS4, which means the new console will have Pro’s capacity that is up to 14 teraflops. This means that the new console will be able to complete 14 trillion operations in one second.

Currently, the Pro’s graphical processing unit of PS4 is capable of 4.2 teraflops. This extensive upgrade was supported by one industry expert. The two other details that have not yet been confirmed are as follows:
2TB of hard drive Storage
4GB DDR4 and 24GB GDDR6 RAM for the Operating System

PS5 Price

The price of the PS5 has not been revealed; the cost will be made known on the release date. According to the senior correspondent for The Wired, Peter Rubin, the future console will not carry an exorbitant price tag.
Due to its high-tech features, you should expect a price between the range of $399 and $499 if Sony does not deviate from its former pricing strategy. They are likely to follow the same course because the PS4 pricing strategy has hitherto been successful.

During its recent earnings call, Sony announced that it had sold over 96.8 million PS4 units globally. With that being said, the cost of the new console may be a bit higher. The Pastebin leaks revealed that the price of the PS5 would be about $100 higher than its predecessor, PS4.

In 2006, the PS3 came in two versions, 20GB and 60 GB which retailed at $499 and $599 respectively. Looking at this trend, the price speculation is not wholly unprecedented.

PS5 Rumors

No doubt, there has been a lot of rumors about the PS5. One of such rumors suggests that PS4 games will be backward compatible with PS5. This is based on a patent that was filed by Sony, which means you can still use all your PS4 Discs on the new console.

A more recent rumor has it that you will be able to play any actual PlayStation game for any of the PS consoles. It has been confirmed by Sony that PS4 gamers will also be able to play against PlayStation 5 gamers; therefore, you can still play together with friends that have not upgraded.

Furthermore, it is evident from all other indications that streaming games over-the-web will also be a part of the PS5 experience, irrespective of the console you are going for. There are lots of other rumors about the Sony PlayStation 5.

There is a high probability that Sony is working on Version two of its PlayStation VR headset. It is expected that all the necessary hardware will be built into the PlayStation 5 so that there won’t be an extra box between console and headset.

It was announced that the PlayStation Plus Service will no longer provide free PS3 or PS Vita games and will instead focus on PlayStation 4 titles. This announcement has ignited some speculations from different angles, and many are of the opinion that Sony is attempting to phase out the old generation’s title to clear the ground for the new generation.

Although this might be mere speculation, it is noteworthy that Sony is planning to minimize its offering games to two, giving a single excuse of focusing on titles for consoles that are successful already. It is unclear whether Sony is making ways for PS5 or offering higher quality PS4 games, we will have to exercise patience to find out what Sony is really planning concerning this.

PS5 Release Date – Thanksgiving

PS5 Mock Image

The PS5 will be released in the year 2020, which is next year, based on the report of Cerny and a subsequent statement. Sony Interactive entertainment informed the Wall Street Journal reporter, Takashi Mochizuki, that there will not be any launch of a new console until May 2020. There is a high possibility that Sony will reveal the console during the summer.

The past three PlayStations were all released in early-to-mid November to take advantage of the holiday shopping season. And, Sony may decide to follow the same trend. The CEO of the Semiconductor company, Dr. Lisa Su, gave more evidence to prove that the release date of 2020 might be late.

There has also been a similar prediction confirming the late release date of the new console. This prediction was made in the enormous list of leaks posted on Pastebin in the last month of the year.

Someone, who claimed to be a game developer working on the titles for the PS5, said in the leak that the new console will either be launched in the third month of 2020 or the last month of the same year, which are March and December respectively.

Judging from the launch history of Sony and all the statements about the launch date, it is more reasonable to predict that the new console will hit the market in November 2020.

SUMMARY

The new console is expected to come with a number of new and exciting features. One of these features is the vintage games; the PS5 is expected to eliminate load screens and also double down on vintage screens.

It was also suggested that the new console will be backward compatible, which enables it to run games that date back to the original PlayStation. With this feature, players with a stack of retro games could make use of their old discs, giving users a feeling of nostalgia.

Also, Sony might make use of this opportunity to accelerate its VR effort as the new console is expected to come with a VR-focused chipset for the immersive gaming experience.
