Classical concert to benefit surgeries for the poor, July 27

A benefit concert of classical music with international artists Odin Rathnam and Mariel Ilusorio will be held to aid surgical health care for the poor in developing countries.

The Philippine Chapter of World Surgical Foundation in close collaboration with Defending Family Values Foundation, Inc. will present “Music and Healing,”  on Saturday, July 27,2019 at the St. Cecilia ‘s Hall of St. Scholastica’s College, Manila.

“Music and Healing” will feature violinist Odin Rathnam who is a graduate of the Juilliard School a and has performed twice with the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as Filipina pianist Mariel Ilusorio, likewise Juilliard-trained.

Mariel Ilusorio has returned to her home country after 26 years abroad (US, Germany, South Africa) to share her musical expertise with her countrymen.  They will perform a sophisticated program of sonatas by Leclaire, Debussy, Ysaye and Strauss.

The WSF has performed over 17,000 free surgeries since being established in Pennsylvania in 1997 by renowned Filipino surgeon Dr. Domingo Alvear. Its Philippine chapter was established in 2017. Volunteer surgeons from multiple specialties, nurses, and support staff have performed surgical camps in developing countries, including Ecuador, Ethiopia, Haiti, Honduras, India, Nigeria, the Philippines, and Thailand. They provide life-changing surgeries and education to medical staff during each trip as well as medical equipment, supplies and medicine around the world.

Defending Family Values Foundation, Inc. (DFVF) a PCNC and DSWD accredited non- government organization has served thousands of poor families and individuals since its establishment in 1994 through its various socio-educational, nutrition and health programs and projects.  Presently, DFV Foundation, Inc. is assisting handicapped students i.e., deaf-mute and blind students, to gain a better future through varied skills training programs and in improving their school’s facilities.
