Filipina in Vegas shot dead by ex-husband in front of their child
LAS VEGAS – A Filipina’s former husband shot her to death in front of their child Thursday, April 25 in central Las Vegas before he himself was shot dead.
Karen Gotidoc Lopez, 34, was shot dead by her ex-husband, Fernando Lopez, outside a home on Silver Saddle Street, near Desert Inn Road and Eastern Avenue..
Metro Police said Fernando, Karen, and their 4-year-old child arrived in a vehicle and parked. Fernando began threatening Karen while holding a gun as they exited the vehicle. Karen kocked at a neighbor’s door and asked him to hold her child, according to a KLAS report.
The neighbor held the child, tried to diffuse the quarrel, then went and got a gun. Fernando shot Karen, before firing towards the neighbor and a second resident.
The second resident was struck, and the neighbor returned fire, police said. However, it’s uncertain if the neighbor shot Lopez or he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Neighbors told KLAS Karen Lopez had lived in the area for about a year. Court records show Karen and Fernando married in 2015 and divorced last year. Their child has been placed with child protective services.
