Four Filipino restaurants have opened up in just over a year in Mississauga, in the greater Toronto area, reported the online lifestyle publication Insauga.com.

  • Berto’s Cuisine (1063 Dundas Street West)

Berto’s Cuisine is a quaint, family run Filipino restaurant, according to insauga.com. “Berto” the nickname for “Edilberto” was chosen as the name of the restaurant because it stood out as the most Filipino-sounding among the names of the six restaurant partners, said Oswald Morales Martel, executive chef and a co-owner.

  • B’s Sizzling (30-7885 Tranmere Drive)

B’s Sizzling Kitchen is hidden on a commercial side street near Pearson International Airport. It specializes in Filipino fusion cuisine, blending traditional Filipino dishes with North American and Asian flavors. It’s California Filipino fusion food truck and homey Filipino karaoke bar combined, says Insauga.com.

  • Carinderia (980 Eglinton Avenue East)

Carinderia specializes in authentic Filipino cuisine and also serves native Filipino sweet delicacies. The restaurant serves halo-halo, a popular Filipino frozen treat that is made from scratch by owner Dolly Flores’ team of chefs who have worked in kitchens in Israel and California.

  • Lola’s Foodhaus (5120 Dixie Road)

Lola’s Foodhaus is a new Filipino-fusion restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and offers weekend karaoke and DJ nights. Lola’s is currently in its soft launch phase with an upcoming grand opening date to be announced. It’s located in a busy plaza along Dixie Rd. at Eglinton Ave. E and took over the Mario San Francesco’s Ristorante space.
