CalEITC4Me brings free tax prep to Lynwood, Calif.
LOS ANGELES – In an effort to remove barriers to claiming the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), CalEITC4Me is bringing free tax preparation services and resources to the City of Lynwood, California on Saturday, April 1.
Eligible moderate- to low-income working families can claim up to $6,000 in cash back refunds by simply filing their taxes. In Los Angeles County, $45 million in CalEITC is available this year, in addition to $500 million in federal EITC.
Congresswoman Nanette Diaz Barragán who represents the 44th District will join Joseph N. Sanberg, Chair of the CalEITC4Me campaign to speak at the event, and meet with families. Families will be able to have their taxes prepared for free by VITA volunteers and find out how much EITC they will receive.
“The California and federal EITC is one of our best tools to help working Californians stretch their income and create a better future for themselves and their families,” said Congresswoman Nanette Diaz Barragán. “Many people don’t file taxes, but they’re potentially missing out substantial refunds. Each year more than $2 billion in federal EITC is unclaimed by working Californians.”
“This tax season we want every eligible family to claim the money they’ve earned. By bringing our resources directly to communities, we are offering more than free tax prep – we are delivering a message that we are here to help hard working families build economic security,” said Joseph N. Sanberg, CalEITC4Me Chair.
“We want families that made $54,000 or less in 2016 to know that there are VITA Free Tax Prep services conveniently located in their communities,” added Congresswoman Barragán. “For families who cannot attend this Saturday, CalEITC4me.org helps families find out how much of a refund they can expect, and offers information in Spanish and Mandarin.”
