Special Seattle soiree for musical on rise and fall of the Marcoses

SEATTLE, Washington — The public is invited to a special cultural night presentation of the hit musical “Here Lies Love” on June 3, 5:30 p.m. at Seattle Repertory Theatre.
Seattle’s Philippine Soiree is presented by three-time Tony and Grammy Award-winner Jhett Tolentino, in cooperation with FYLPRO.
“Here Lies Love” tells the story of the eventful People Power Revolution in a dance party format with techno beats and catchy tunes. The play follows the life of the controversial first lady Imelda Marcos and the non-violent restoration of democracy in the Philippines that inspired the world.
“We’re proud to bring you ‘Here Lies Love’ and call on all our kababayan, and the entire community to join us in this unique celebration of culture,” said Kit Zulueta, president of FYLPRO. “I especially encourage my fellow youth to attend and learn about a part of Philippine history that is relevant to who we are today as Filipinos.”

The show features a storyline with songs describing events that led to the declaration of Martial Law in the Philippines in 1972, and the revolution in 1986.
No political slant
Past audiences and critics from the show’s successful runs in London and New York were left to draw their own conclusions based on unaltered facts documented and highly researched by the production creator.
As the show doesn’t take a political slant, organizers agreed it was timely and perfect to bring awareness and encourage discussion about the significant events in Philippines’ history, especially to the youth.
“It’s time for all Filipinos to come
together regardless of which side of Martial Law they were on.” Tolentino said. “I hope this show brings the healing we deserve and the strength to move forward towards unity.”
The show’s storyline and lyrics were conceptualized by Talking Heads’ David Byrne, music by Byrne and Fatboy Slim, and is directed by two-time Tony nominee Alex Timbers.
The phrase “Here Lies Love” was Imelda Marcos’ request to be inscribed on her tombstone.
Soiree attendees to enjoy perks
Patrons will be treated to a post-show Meet-and-Greet and Q&A featuring the all-Filipino cast Jaygee Macapugay as first lady Imelda Marcos, Conrad Ricamora as Ninoy Aquino, Mark Bautista as President Ferdinand Marcos and producer Jhett Tolentino.
The Soiree also aims to bring the community together with a Sari-Sari marketplace showcasing our sponsors and Filipino products and vendors. A salo-salo reception then follows to allow guests to network and delight in Filipino delicacies and refreshments.
The benefit show supports Tolentino’s upcoming documentary “Life is What You Make It,” and FYLPRO, a nonprofit that helps develop next-generation leaders that have a passion for advancing the Philippines and the Filipino people.
Not your typical musical
Seattle Repertory’s Bagley Wright Theatre transforms into a dance party, offering a unique 90-minute experience that shouldn’t be missed.
Those with tickets on the main floor will be standing, with the full experience of a concert. Main floor guests are advised to bring minimal items, like personal handbags and wear comfortable shoes and attire.
There will be seating in the gallery and balcony for those interested, with some nontraditional theatre chairs. There will be no intermission during the show.
Sponsors and community partners sought
Event organizers are seeking monetary and in-kind corporate and community support to help create a memorable and successful event. In addition to the benefits and advertising opportunities offered on June 3, sponsors will also be recognized by FYLPRO at its prestigious annual Immersion Program, in partnership with the Philippine Embassy in Washington, D.C.
