Sony PlayStations has come a long way from its first release up to the latest PlayStation 4 we all enjoy these days. Whether you have been playing the Final Fantasy VII from PS1 or the latest Spider Man from PS4, Sony PlayStation has continuously offered exclusive deals to its consumers. And so, here are the top 10 PS4 games of 2019 – in random order.
#1 Spider Man
Coming way ahead to the top, the most-awaited game became the fastest-selling superhero game in US history, labeled as the best-selling PlayStation 4 game ever. Created by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, Marvel Comics’ Spider Man is an action-adventure game. The game covers both Peter Parker and Spider Man aspect of the character.
With the settings adopted from the original comics, set in Manhattan, in a fictionalized version of New York City. Spider Man can navigate the world by jumping, using his famous Web Shooters, run along walls, and jump over obstacles.
There will also be Tokens to be collected throughout the game by accomplishing specific tasks. There are six types of Token: Challenge Tokens, Backpack Tokens, Research Tokens, Crime Tokens, Base Tokens and Landmark Tokens. There are also specific sections of the game that are played as Peter Parker, Mary Jane Watson and Miles Morales which has different puzzle genres of their own.
#2 God of War
The 8th installment of the action-adventure game developed by Santa Monica Studio and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment is based on Norse mythology set in ancient Norway and in the realm of Midgard. What came as new is that there are two protagonists in the game: Kratos, the former Greek God of War and his son Atreus.
With the death of Kratos’ second wife, Atreus’ mother, the characters venture out on a journey to fulfill the promise made to spread her ashes at the highest peak of the nine realms. And along their journey, they encounter monsters and Gods of the Norse world.
The installment is a single-player only with no camera cuts or loading screens. The player will battle against Norse mythological foes, as well as Gullveig and the revenants. There will also be side quests to be unlocked. There are new controls and changes done compared to the previous installments to create a more challenging atmosphere. In addition, there are times when player may choose to control Atreus for assistance and such.
#3 The Last of Us Remastered
This Naughty Dog developed game has remained on top of the most played game years after its release in 2014. It had minor gameplay additions and the game features enhanced graphics with a downloadable content episode, Left Behind.
The premise of the game is set twenty years after an outbreak of the mutated strain of Cordyceps fungus that caused a huge civilization destruction. The game can be played as a single-player or in multiplayer mode. The single-player follows Joel, who is assigned to bring the young Ellie across the post-apocalyptic United Stated, in an attempt to create a cure against the outbreak which Ellie is immune to. While the multiplayer lets up to eight players who engage in game matches.
What changed for the latest installment is that it became an action-adventure survival horror game, all-in-one. The game involves gunfights, melee combat and others. In addition, there are audio recordings found in the game that you can listen to at your convenience. The game’s Photo Mode allows players to capture images of the game which also allows the players to adjust the camera.
#4 Until Dawn
Included in the lasting games from PS4 is a Supermassive Games developed horror adventure game launched in 2015. Set in Western Canada, the single-player game revolves around eight teenagers who decide to have a holiday for a night in a cabin on the fictional Blackwood Mountain where exactly one year after the disappearance of the twin sisters that used to be part members of their group.
Throughout the journey, the group must survive until sunrise amidst attacks from a madman. Player can alternate between all eight characters, making decisions as the story advances which will affect the outcome of the game. The thrill in playing Until Dawn is that it is to be played multiple times to be able to rotate among the eight members of the group. Each playthrough can last for nine hours.
The game also includes flashbacks and flash forward wherein certain events can be unfolded through the eyes of the character. You can check out The Inpatient if you’re curious about what had happened before things started. It is a prequel to Until Dawn launched in 2018 which is set sixty years before the events of the original game.
#5 Resogun
Developed by a Finnish company Housemarque and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, these PS4, PS3 and PS Vita game has made its way to various locations around the globe since its release in 2013. In Resogun, the player defeats enemies and rescues humans trapped in a created world.
The player has to battle on five distinct cylindrical voxel-based levels: Acis, Ceres, Decima, Febris and Mefitis. Each level has three phases and a boss of its own. Upon completion of every level from successfully defeating the enemies up to saving the humans, the player will receive a bonus score.
The game also features two game modes which are Single Level and Arcade. In Single Level mode, the player must complete the level with single highest score in order to advance to the next level. In Arcade Mode, the player has to continue to the next level upon accomplishing the previous one. Player can also choose from five difficulty levels such as: Rookie, Experienced, Veteran, Master and Hero.
#6 DriveClub
Included in the best PS4 exclusive is an Evolution Studios developed racing single or multiplayer game. This racing game involves players who compete in racing events around the world. Players are allowed to compete in team with other players called “clubs”. Another game mode available is Tour, wherein players can compete in standard races, time trials, drifting events and even in championship tournaments held at different countries like Norway, Canada, Scotland, India, Japan and Chile.
Players are also allowed to customize their car, their club, or their driver. A weather system as well as a day-night cycle is also added in this game. As mentioned a while ago, one of the points of the game is to build a club of up to six players. Players then competes in challenges and gains fame which will determine their level as well as their club’s level. Through this, they can unlock items such as vehicles, accolades or color schemes.
There are three main game modes: Tour, Single Event and Multiplayer. Tour is a campaign mode where the location and car is already set. Single event is where players can choose what kind of event they would like to play including the location and weather. While multiplayer involves real life players. Driveclub is the counterpart of Xbox One’s Forza Horizon.
#7 Until Dawn: Rush Blood
This VR required video game, developed by Supermassive Games is a rail shooter themed which is a direct spin-off from Until Dawn. It features the player riding a horror-themed roller coaster while shooting at inanimate objects and live enemies.
Adopting Until Dawn: Rush Blood’s horror-themed story, set on a horror-themes carnival which grows more intense as the player goes on with the game. The game has seven roller coasters but the good thing is the ride is loaded by default handguns and other weapons are readily available.
And if you think you’ve killed the monsters who want to murder you, just like Until Dawn, you haven’t seen the whole game once you reach the end. What’s more exciting is that a leaderboard is added to see which among your pals can keep their cool attitude the best and if who’s the most incapable in surviving even a horror movie.
#8 Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition
This not-so exclusive PS4 game that couldn’t still be missed in this list. Who wouldn’t love the legendary Street Fighter series, right?
As developed by Capcom and Dimps, the Japanese game can also be played on Windows and in Arcades. The game introduces a “V-Gauge” which builds as the players received attacks and adds three new skills such as the V-Skills, V-Reversals and V-Triggers.
V-Skills are special attacks unique to each fighter. V-Reversals allow players to use a section of the V-Gauge to perform a counter move while being attacked. And V-Triggers use the entire V-Gauge to allow the player to perform a unique ability such as temporary damage boost or added hits. And unlike in Street Fighter III where the Stun Meter is not visible, it is made visible in its fifth installation under the health bars in the game.
It has 16 characters to choose from at launch, four of which are new to the series. The four new characters includes: Necalli, an intelligent wild warrior who seeks a strong opponent’s soul; Rashis, who is capable of manipulating wind and is searching for a missing friend; Laura Matsuda, the older sister of Street Fighter III Sean Matsuda who uses Brazilian jiu-jitsu and electricity in her attacks; and F.A.N.G, who combines long ranged attacks and slippery movements with this ability to poison his opponents.
To complete the new additions, the game also features an interactive arena showcasing special animations when a player is defeated at the edge of the arena. The story takes place between Street Fighter IV and III.
#9 Tearaway Unfolded
The platformer game developed by Media Molecule and Tarsier Studios is single played mode PS4 exclusive. Tearaway Unfolded takes place in a storybook type world made entirely of paper. The player chooses from Atoi or Iota, messengers who are tasked to deliver a letter to a portal in the sky called “the You”. The developer made heavy use of the console’s features, including its rear touchpad, gyroscope and even its camera.
On the way to accomplish the main mission, the player must save the world from “Scraps” which are small villainous creatures which are invading the paper world. The game emphasized on its environmental interaction wherein in order to get through the areas, the player needs to modify the landscape, which causes the player to use tools present in the environment. Things like triggering bounce pads, rotate platforms, illuminate objects, cast gusts of wind and hurl objects.
DualShock is also of a major help in this game. With the aid of the lightbar on the front of the DualShock controller, it can be used to illuminate dark areas in the game world as well as in creating additional platforms for traversing areas. The gyroscope of the DualShock 4 also allows suspending, titling, and turning platforms in the game to make them possible for the player to traverse.
#10 Persona 5

On its sixth installment, Persona 5 takes place in a modern-day Tokyo and follows a protagonist codenamed Joker after his transfer to Shujin Academy after being on probation for a falsely accused crime.
During the school year, he and other students awaken to their Persona powers that led to their group called Phantom Thieves of Hearts who are secret vigilantes who changes wrong humanity desires through the Metaverse, which is a supernatural realm. The game also includes day-night cycle as well as weather conditions.
Joker can also perform part-time jobs and pursue leisure activities or create battle items. Persona 5 holds new features and additions the main protagonist can explore.
