Ylona Garcia has long been more than just a pop star. For many who grew up watching Pinoy Big Brother 737, she was a style icon, an emotional anchor and a voice of her generation.

Nearly a decade since her breakout moment on Philippine television, Ylona continues to connect with the youth from that era, this time, from an international stage.

At the recently concluded &Friends Music Festival in Manila, the Los Angeles-based Filipino Australian artist delivered a nostalgic punch as she performed her fan-favorite anthem “Win the Fight.”

Originally written during her PBB stint, the song became synonymous with what fans affectionately call her “choker era,” which was a time when almost every viewer was seen emulating her signature necklace.

But beyond nostalgia, Ylona used the moment to spotlight a new generation of Filipino talent.

On Instagram, she posted a compilation of her favorite renditions of “Win the Fight,” including a clip featuring BINI members Colet and Stacey, then still Star Hunt Academy trainees.

Reposting the video on her Instagram Story, Ylona wrote, “We should record this, this is awesome!”

She also took notes on the rap sections written by the BINI member back then, saying, “Lyrics are killer.”

BINI Colet responded, writing, “omg nakakahiyaaaa hahahuhuhu, hiiii [Ylona],” to which Ylona warmly replied, “Wag ka mahiya! Ang galing mo kaya!”

In her post, Ylona reflected on the pressures and responsibilities that come with being in the spotlight.

“I can be very self-critical and unforgiving with myself because of the influence I’ve had on people for the last decade,” she admitted. “Every now and then, there are people that come in showing me why I’m given this platform, role, and responsibility.”

She ended her caption with a powerful affirmation that “No matter what anyone says, I’ll keep going for you. I’ll make this work for you.”
