Taking to Instagram after the event, the singer-songwriter expressed deep gratitude for the recognition: “Thank you so much [Planned Parenthood of Greater NY Action Fund] for giving me the catalyst for change award at this year’s Planned Parenthood spring gala.”
Rodrigo’s message was a powerful call to action, emphasizing that “bodily autonomy is a fundamental human right” and asserting that healthcare access “shouldn’t depend on the zip code we live in.”
Planned Parenthood of Greater New York fights for equitable access to sexual and reproductive health care, and safe legal abortion, which aligns with Rodrigo’s vision.
In her remarks, Rodrigo lauded Planned Parenthood for offering critical services such as affordable cancer screenings, birth control and STD testing.
She also highlighted the importance of abortion care, saying it “gives women the ability to shape their own lives and futures.”
Acknowledging the challenges ahead, she added, “Our rights are under attack and I am grateful to Planned Parenthood for their courage and leadership as we continue to fight for justice.”
