A documentary short film that delves into themes of Filipino cultural pride and reconnection, by Filipino American footballer and emerging filmmaker Reina Bonta, is set to premiere at the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival (LAAPFF) 2025.
The documentary captures a historic moment in Filipino sports, chronicling the first-ever World Cup debut and victory of the Philippine women’s national football team.
But beyond the game, the film also focuses on an intimate journey in which one of the players embarks on a deeply personal trip with her “Lola” (grandmother) to their ancestral hometown in the Philippines.

“My heart is bursting!!” Bonta exclaimed in her post. “So grateful to have the first official showing of this sweet film be in community and in my home state at a festival that is known for its dedication to illuminating AAPI visions and voices and pushing boundaries,” she shared, thanking Visual Communications, the nonprofit behind the festival.
