Fil-Am chef named semifinalist for 2025 James Beard Award

Filipino Americans have been at the forefront of culinary excellence in the United States. One of them is Chef Paolo Dungca from Washington, DC, who has recently earned a spot on the roster of semifinalists for the prestigious 2025 James Beard Award in the Emerging Chef category.
Recognized by the James Beard Foundation for his modern techniques at Hiraya — his Filipino restaurant in Washington DC — Chef Dungca is redefining Filipino cuisine while highlighting his cultural roots.
In an Instagram post, Chef Dungca expressed his gratitude, saying, “I’ve always dreamed of seeing my name on this list someday. Honored to be an Emerging Chef semifinalist for the @beardfoundation awards.”

Honoring culinary excellence, the James Beard Foundation officially announced its 2025 semifinalists on Jan. 22, stating in a social media post, “We are excited to share the Restaurant and Chef Award semifinalists for the 2025 James Beard Awards® presented by @capitalone.”
Winners will be announced on April 2, with a grand awards ceremony slated for June 16 at the Lyric Opera in Chicago.
