Maris Racal grateful for ‘Sunshine’ selection at Berlinale

The film is set to make its European premiere under the Generation 14plus category

Filipino actress Maris Racal shared the exciting news about her latest film “Sunshine” making it to the 75th Berlin International Film Festival, also known as Berlinale

Taking to Instagram, the “Incognito” star posted a series of behind-the-scenes photos from the production and expressed her gratitude. 

“Bringing Sunshine to Berlinale 2025. Grateful for this incredible journey and the chance to share our story on such a prestigious stage. SUNSHINE is set to make its European premiere under the Generation 14plus Competition!” she wrote.

The film, which features the “Can’t Buy Me Love” actress as a young gymnast navigating teenage pregnancy while competing for a national team spot, takes a deeper turn when a mysterious figure enters her life, revealing truths that challenge her perceptions of family and resilience.

Meanwhile, the production company Project 8 Projects officially announced the achievement on Jan. 16.

Brimming with pride, the company stated in an Instagram post, “SUNSHINE” IS COMING TO BERLINALE!” and further added, “We are proud to announce that SUNSHINE is an official selection at the 75th Edition of The Berlin International Festival under the Generation 14 plus Competition!”

This is not the first time “Sunshine” has made waves internationally. In September 2024, it was featured in the Centrepiece section of the 49th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), showcasing its storytelling excellence among 43 films from various countries.

It was also recently highlighted at the Palm Springs International Film Festival (PSIFF).

The Berlin International Film Festival or Berlinale is one of the most prestigious and renowned film festivals in the world.

Held annually in Berlin, Germany, it is a global platform for filmmakers to showcase their work to an international audience of critics, industry professionals and film enthusiasts. 

This year’s Berlinale will take place in February.
