The inspiration behind Catriona Gray’s gown at the Legacy Ball
At the recently concluded Legacy Ball, Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray wore a unique dress adorned with written words.
Her appearance on Nov. 22 at the City of Dreams in Manila captivated hearts, not only for her graceful presence and the thoughtful advocacy event but also for the powerful message she wore across her heart.
The beauty queen, singer and host, who has long been an advocate for children’s education, stepped into the spotlight wearing a dress adorned with the written dreams of children from Young Focus Philippines.
The idea for this powerful fashion statement came to Gray during her recent travels in Canada, after the successful Cornerstone All-Star Canada concert.
Inspired by her reflection on the importance of dreams and opportunities, Gray wanted to wear something that would visually represent her mission to help children dream big.

In an Instagram post, the former Miss Universe titleholder explained the symbolism behind her dress, sharing, “Every child deserves to have the opportunity to dream and to have access to the resources that equip them to pursue it.”
She knew immediately that she wanted to work with Filipino designer Dee Javier, known for his sentimental and meaningful creations, including his love letter designs from Ternocon ‘23.
The collaboration was a natural fit, with Gray reaching out to Javier, who agreed to help bring her idea to life.

“Am so thrilled that @ddeejavier said yes and so beautifully executed the idea. I feel there would be no better way to step into the Legacy Gala,” she added.
The gown featured handwritten dreams from the children of Young Focus Philippines, a non-government organization she has long been working for since before her reign as Miss Universe 2018.
The Legacy Ball, which blends music, fashion and advocacy, is dedicated to raising funds and awareness for the organization.
This year, the event also showcased the talents of Gray’s Cornerstone Entertainment colleagues, including Piolo Pascual and Richard Poon. Gray also had her own number towards the end of the program.
“If you would like to learn more about the work that Young Focus does and donate, you can visit youngfocus.org,” she concluded, hoping her Legacy Ball would be an annual event to raise more funds for the organization.
