Fil-Am fashion design students visit Natori showroom in New York
NEW YORK – Members of the Filipino Student Association (FSA) at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York recently visited the Natori Showroom in New York City, where they explored the work of trailblazing Filipino American fashion designer Josie Natori.
The visit was arranged by the Philippine Consulate General in New York as part of its promotion of Philippine fibers, fabrics and textiles, and designers of Filipino heritage.
The visit offered the students a glimpse into the creative process, craftsmanship and the brand’s impact on the global fashion industry.
During the visit, the students examined Natori’s use of fabrics, intricate details and cultural motifs, gaining insight into how heritage and craftsmanship can thrive on the international stage.
Headquartered in New York City, the Natori Company also operates a warehouse in Carlstadt, New Jersey.
Its sister company, FFI, manages a factory in the Philippines, where most of Natori’s collections are manufactured.
What began with creating lingerie on her living room floor evolved into a lifestyle brand rooted in her Filipino heritage and the craftsmanship of the Philippines.
Over the past 46 years, Natori has continued to bring art into life with an East meets West sensibility.
Natori’s success story has underscored the potential of Filipino creatives to make a lasting impact in the industry, inspiring the next generation to embrace and celebrate their cultural roots through innovative design.
This experience not only deepened the students’ appreciation for Natori’s contributions but also encouraged them to envision their own paths in the fashion world.
