Kamala Harris thanks Taylor Swift for her support but teases Super Bowl rivalry
Pop superstar Taylor Swift has publicly thrown her support behind Vice President Kamala Harris for the upcoming 2024 presidential election. The “Cruel Summer” singer took to Instagram on Sept. 10 to endorse Harris, praising her as a “steady-handed, gifted leader.”
Swift emphasized the need for transparency in politics, especially in the era of misinformation, urging her fans to be informed voters. The endorsement carries significant weight, as Swift’s massive influence could sway public opinion in what many predict will be a tight election race.
In a recent interview with Wired, Vice President Harris expressed her excitement about the Grammy-award-winning singer’s backing.
“I’m very proud to have the support of Taylor Swift. She’s an incredible artist,” Harris said, praising Swift’s courage and ability to stand firm in her beliefs. For Harris, Swift’s endorsement isn’t just a nod of approval from a pop icon as it symbolizes the unity of a powerful voice for change, particularly in the face of today’s polarized political landscape.
However, Harris couldn’t resist injecting a bit of lighthearted humor into the conversation, referencing the Super Bowl rivalry between the two.
“We were on different sides of the Super Bowl last year,” Harris joked, alluding to Swift’s support for her boyfriend Travis Kelce’s Kansas City Chiefs, who defeated Harris’ hometown San Francisco 49ers. “But who’s mad at anyone for being loyal to their team?” she playfully added.
Swift’s endorsement aligns her with other pop stars, including Filipino American artist Olivia Rodrigo, who have also publicly voiced their support for Harris.
As the political landscape heats up, “Swifties for Kamala” has become a visible force, amplifying Harris’ message and engaging a younger demographic.
In an Instagram post showing Swift’s support to Harris, the singer also expressed her support for Kamala Harris’s running mate, Tim Walz, commending his long-standing advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights, in vitro fertilization and women’s reproductive rights. In her post, Swift urged her followers to take action, assuring them that her endorsement was rooted in thorough research and a genuine belief in the candidates’ values and leadership capabilities.
