Taylor Swift endorses Kamala Harris for 2024 presidential election

Just as “Swifties for Kamala,” her fandom, publicly supports Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris, Taylor Swift has officially endorsed the vice president for the upcoming 2024 presidential election. 

Following a debate between Harris and former President Donald Trump, the “Cruel Summer” singer took to Instagram on Sept. 10 to share her endorsement, highlighting Harris as a “steady-handed, gifted leader” and addressing concerns about misinformation in the digital age.

The Grammy-award-winning artist reflected on the debate and encouraged her followers to deeply research the candidates’ positions on issues that matter to them. She stressed the importance of informed voting and shared her dismay over an AI-generated false endorsement of Trump that had circulated, fueling her commitment to transparency.

Swift’s endorsement was direct and personal: “I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election,” she declared. 

She praised Harris for her dedication to causes she supports, noting, “She fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader, and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.”

The singer also voiced her support for Harris’s running mate, Walz, highlighting his long-standing advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights, in vitro fertilization and women’s reproductive rights. Swift’s post was both a call to action and a personal assurance to her followers that her choice was based on thorough research and sincere belief in the candidates’ values and abilities.

Swift concluded her message by encouraging first-time voters to ensure they are registered and consider early voting. She promised to provide resources for registration and early voting information in her Instagram story.

Adding to Harris’ growing support from artists, Filipino American pop star Olivia Rodrigo has also voiced her backing. Rodrigo supported Harris’ stance against Trump’s abortion policies and her advocacy for reproductive rights.
