“Have you ever had your heart broken?” asks Lauv.

Reflecting on the new song, the “I Like Me Better” hitmaker shared, “‘First Heartbreak’ is one of my favorite songs I’ve ever written because it’s so heartbreaking but it’s also so uplifting and hopeful.”
Lauv expressed that although nothing quite compares to experiencing a first heartbreak, the song serves as a reminder that love is always nearby if one remains open to it. The track further taps into the universal experience of navigating love and loss, blending heartfelt lyrics with an air of resilience.
In a surprise Instagram post just recently, Lauv provided more insight into the inspiration behind the song. He shared how a card game with friends prompted him to reflect on past heartaches.

“I was playing @werenotreallystrangers with my friends on a writing trip and we got this card that said ‘have you ever had your heart broken?’ All of a sudden, I flashed back to a childhood memory that reminded me heartbreak comes in many different forms,” he wrote.
This moment of reflection inspired the creation of the song, which he hopes listeners will connect with, though not too deeply.
“I forever love this song and forever love this experience and I hope you guys (although not too deeply) resonate with the story,” he added.
Earlier this year, Lauv launched “Potential,” marking his first release since mid-2023. This track also introduced a new chapter for the artist, thanks to his recent partnership with the global music company AWAL.
Additionally, Lauv teamed up with fellow pop stars Jeremy Zucker and Alexander 23 to release “Cozy,” a collaborative single that thrilled audiences at the Seoul Jazz Fest in its live debut.
