Indie-pop star mxmtoon to drop ‘most introspective’ album

Known for her emotionally resonant lyrics and confessional songwriting,
American indie-pop artist mxmtoon is set to release her highly anticipated third studio album, “liminal space,” on Nov. 1 through AWAL.
Known for her heartfelt, confessional songwriting, mxmtoon’s latest project promises to delve even deeper into the emotional complexities of growing up, framed through her unique indie-pop lens.
In an announcement on Instagram, Maia wrote “THE SITUATION IS OUT NOW!! but that’s not all :,) i am so excited to announce that my new album, liminal space, will be out november 1! yes the name and creative are bc i love the backrooms…. can’t wait for you all to venture into this world with me.”
“liminal space” is shaping up to be mxmtoon’s most reflective work yet, capturing the turbulence of transitioning into adulthood.
“It’s been a turbulent time, and at points, I felt completely suspended in a space I didn’t fully understand,” she shared in a press release. “Life has thrown countless questions my way, and for many, I’ve had no answers. It was in that uncertainty that liminal space was born.”
What sets this project apart is mxmtoon’s collaboration with an all-female team, from producers to visual artists. Leading the creative direction is celebrated artist Kang Hee Kim, whose work visually captures the introspective themes of the album.
The singer expressed how important this collaboration was, noting that working with women made the process feel more empowering, especially given the album’s focus on personal agency and self-exploration.

The singer-songwriter’s newest track, “the situation,” is also out now, featuring vocals from Sarah Bonito of Kero Kero Bonito and cryalot. The song pairs existential musings with an upbeat pop sound, mixing clever, tongue-in-cheek lyrics with catchy melodies and acoustic touches, further demonstrating mxmtoon’s ability to balance deep themes with infectious pop hooks.
With liminal space, mxmtoon is all set to take listeners on a journey through life’s uncertainties, all while continuing to push the boundaries of her sound and artistic vision.
