Katseye’s Sophia Laforteza calls Olivia Rodrigo her ‘pinsan’

The connection between HYBE’s rising global idol group Katseye and Grammy-award-winning singer-songwriter Olivia Rodrigo continues to blossom, with the Filipina idol playfully referring to each other as “cousins.”

Katseye’s sole Filipino member, Sophia Laforteza, recently posted a TikTok video paying tribute to the Filipino American pop star.

In the short clip, uploaded to Katseye’s official page with over 270,000 reactions, Laforteza is seen vibing to Rodrigo’s hit song “Drivers License,” fully embracing her fandom by wearing an Olivia Rodrigo shirt, face stickers and holding a purple tumbler – a true nod to the Fil-Am singer’s iconic style.

Alongside the video, Laforteza cheekily captioned, “Syempre susuportahan ko ang pinsan ko,” with a purple heart and a winking emoji, sparking a flurry of reactions from fans.

One fan excitedly noted, “The way both Sophia and Olivia’s signature color is purple.” Another fan, curious about their connection, asked, “Is she a cousin of Olivia Rodrigo???” in all caps. 

But a fellow Filipino netizen quickly clarified, “It’s a Filipino inside joke since every Filipino is secretly related.” This playful exchange captures the shared cultural humor that resonates with Filipinos around the world.

This TikTok moment comes on the heels of a recent backstage encounter between Katseye and the “Vampire” songstress at her “GUTS” show. The six-member group had the opportunity to meet the chart-topping artist. The highlight of the meeting was when Rodrigo joined Katseye in their signature hand pose from their hit single, “Touch.”

Katseye later expressed their admiration for the singer-songwriter on Instagram, writing, “What a special night [with Olivia Rodrigo]. We look up to your craft and kindness immensely. Thank you for being such an incredible role model for all of us! SIS [Soft is Strong] for life.”

Katseye released their debut single “Debut,” and the sextet was formed through the reality show Dream Academy, a collaboration between Hybe and Geffen Records.
