Katseye, Olivia Rodrigo share special moment backstage at ‘GUTS’ show
“SIS for life” – a sentiment that rings true for these empowered women making their mark in global music.
HYBE’s rising global idol group, Katseye, recently had an unforgettable encounter with Filipino American pop sensation Olivia Rodrigo during a backstage moment at her “GUTS” show.
The six-member group, with a Filipina member and known for their hard-hitting performances and worldwide appeal, seized the chance to meet the chart-topping artist and even got the “Vampire” songstress to join them in their signature hand pose from their hit single, “Touch.”
In an Instagram post, Katseye expressed their admiration for the Grammy-award-winning singer-songwriter, writing, “What a special night [with Olivia Rodrigo]. We look up to your craft and kindness immensely. Thank you for being such an incredible role model for all of us! SIS [Soft is Strong] for life.”
One fan even noted how seamlessly the “Drivers License” hitmaker fit in with the group, saying, “It’s the fact that Olivia blends into the group too. She’s part of you guys now.”
This meeting was particularly meaningful for Katseye’s Sophia Laforteza, the group’s Filipina member. Laforteza made history as the first Filipino artist under HYBE, the powerhouse agency that has propelled numerous global acts to stardom. Her presence in Katseye highlights a proud moment for Filipino fans, as Laforteza continues to represent her roots on an international stage.
Katseye released their debut single “Debut,” and the sextet was formed through the reality show Dream Academy, a collaboration between Hybe and Geffen Records.
The backstage encounter wasn’t just a meeting of musical minds, but also a celebration of shared heritage, as both Rodrigo and Laforteza carry their Filipino pride in their hearts.
Rodrigo teased in one of her “GUTS World Tour” posters that she would be heading home to the Philippines, likely making the country one of her Asian stops. Meanwhile, Laforteza, along with the other members of Katseye, had a TikTok video with the nation’s girl group BINI during the recently concluded KCON LA 2024.
