Davao and Kauai, Hawaii now sister cities

HONOLULU – Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio signed a sister city agreement between the Davao City and Kauai, Hawaii with Kauai Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. on September 10, 2018, according to the Philippine consulate here.
Mayor Duterte-Carpio headed a delegation who went on a two-day work visit in Kauai, starting September 9, to further deepen Davao City and Kauai’s partnership in tourism and culture, agriculture, commerce, and trade.
A tree planting ceremony was held at the Kauai Philippine Cultural Center, a gathering place for the Filipino community, which is set to open later this year. The delegation also met local businessmen and visited one of Kauai’s biggest and most important employers, the Hawaii Coffee Company.
Members of the delegation were Councilor Marissa Abella, City Tourism Operations Office OIC Regina Rosa Ferrazzini, City Agriculture Officer Leo Brian Leuterio, and Investment and Promotions Center Officer Lemuel Ortonio at Kauai’s Lihue Airport.
Also present at Mayor Duterte’s arrival in Kauai, as well as her earlier transit in Honolulu, were members of the Filipino community, who warmly greeted her.
