Carlos Yulo, Lee Kiefer honored by ice cream shop with PH-themed sundaes
ARLINGTON, Va. – A Virginia-based ice cream shop is honoring Filipino Olympic gold medalist gymnast Carlos Yulo and Fil-Am gold medalist fencer Lee Kiefer with special Olympic-themed sundaes.
For a limited time, Toby’s is offering Filipino flavors like ube and macapuno along with these special sundaes that come with a Philippine flag, a gold-foil-covered chocolate medal and colored sprinkles.
In an Instagram post, the popular, award-winning ice cream parlor – owned by Fil-Am couple Toby and Monina Bantug – said it was offering “two delicious scoops” in honor of Yulo’s two medals in men’s floor and vault.
“Introducing the Philippines Gold Medal Sundae @ Toby’s! In honor of Carlos Yulo’s (@c_edrielzxs) historic gold medal winning gymnastics performances in both men’s floor and vault! Two delicious scoops of Toby’s Handmade Ice Cream, your choice (we suggest our Filipino flavors for this sundae!), one of our wet toppings, whipped cream, red & blue sprinkles, a gold foil covered chocolate medal, and a Philippine flag! Go Philippines!!!” says the post.

The special two-scoop sundaes also honor Kiefer, a two-time Olympic gold medalist for women’s individual foil for both the Tokyo Olympics and the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Toby’s is also paying tribute to Team USA’s gold medalist swimmer Torri Huske with the “Gold Medal Sundae.”
Huske, who is from Arlington, Virginia, won three gold and two silver medals in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The US variation of the Olympic-themed sundae has whipped cream, red, white and blue sprinkles with tiny gold medals, a gold-foil-covered chocolate medal and a US flag, and could include chocolate or vanilla scoops, Toby Bantug told wtopnews.
For the Filipino option, Bantug suggested flavors such as ube or calamansi sorbet, “to make it truly a Filipino sundae.”
