SAN FRANCISCO – The man who allegedly pushed an elderly Filipino American woman into the BART train on Monday, killing her, has been charged with murder.

Trevor Belmont, 49, also known as Hoak Taing, has been charged with one count of murder, according to San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins.

Daly City resident Corazon Dandan, 74, was standing on the platform at the Powell Street station when she was allegedly pushed into the path of a Millbrae-bound train around 11:06 p.m. on Monday.

Dandan, who fell onto the platform and sustained severe head injuries, was rushed to the hospital, where she later died.

Belmont is also accused of inflicting great bodily injury on a vulnerable person and that he allegedly intentionally killed Dandan while lying in wait. He will be arraigned on July 5.

“The nature of this incident at Powell Street BART Station was tragic and truly shocking. I would like to express my deepest condolences to the victim’s family, friends, and colleagues,” Jenkins said in a statement.

“Unprovoked attacks, especially on our most vulnerable, are unacceptable and will not be tolerated. San Francisco residents, workers, and visitors should be able to freely move about and utilize our public transportation systems without fear. My office will now do everything in our power to ensure that there is justice in this case.”

“Although charges have been filed, this remains an active investigation,” Jenkins added.

Meanwhile, Daly City released a statement expressing grief over the loss of a community member and extending its “deepest condolences” to the family of Dandan, a Daly City resident.

“I can only imagine the tremendous pain and suffering family and friends are experiencing after such a loss,” said Mayor Juslyn C. Manalo.

“I know there are no words that can bring them comfort during this difficult time. My thoughts and prayers are with them all.”
