In a much-anticipated decision, Alex Konov, the elite Filipino Bulgarian sensation from Gilas Pilipinas Boys and Manasquan High School in New Jersey, has finally made his choice.

After weighing his options between top universities in the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila University, University of Santo Tomas, Far Eastern University and the University of the Philippines, the last of the elite prospects in the 2024 high school class announced his commitment to De La Salle University (DLSU), declaring, “Go Green Archers.”

Represented by Fil-Am Nation, the 18-year-old, 6-foot-7 utility forward’s decision to play in the country came just last month. The Fil-Bulgarian hooper’s commitment to join the Green Archers for the upcoming UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball tournament was first confirmed by a post from Tiebreaker Times on Facebook.

“I want to thank all my coaches and trainers that have helped me along the way. I also want to thank my parents for everything they have sacrificed over the years,” he added. “Big thanks to Coach Topex and his staff for the opportunity, can’t wait to get to work.”

Having showcased his skills on international platforms like the 2022 FIBA Under-16 Asian Championship with Gilas Pilipinas Youth, where he averaged 10.0 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game, Konov brings a wealth of experience despite his young age. During his final year in New Jersey, Konov demonstrated his prowess, averaging 11.13 points and 2.2 rebounds per game.

With his eligibility to play starting UAAP Season 87, he will have five full years ahead to leave his mark on the country’s collegiate basketball scene. Excitement surrounds Konov’s arrival at DLSU, with plans for him to join the team in the third week of July.
