WATCH: FILIPINXT wows New York fashionistas
NEW YORK – Four pioneering Filipino designers recently launched the inaugural fashion event FILIPINXT and showcased next-generation, Filipino-inspired fashion featuring Philippine-made fabrics and transforming traditional tapestries into contemporary creations.
The event shone the spotlight on the artistry and ingenuity of Bessie Besana from New York, Veejay Floresca from Los Angeles, Michael Leyva from Manila and Wilson Limon of Ninofranco from Davao.
The visionary founders of FILIPINXT, Rob Mallari-D’Auria and Besana, are on a mission to revolutionize the fashion scene in New York, placing Filipino style and heritage at the forefront.
The inaugural show heralded spring fashion for Filipino Americans and New Yorkers and presented a sneak peek at creations that will take the global stage during the much-awaited New York Fashion Week.
The Midtown Manhattan venue was jam-packed with spectators and VIP guests, who were treated to flowing champagne and delectable ube-inspired hors d’oeuvres served by Kalye NYC.
Marriott Bonvoy Manila, one of the sponsors, kicked off the show with a video of exquisite bridal collection promoting the Philippines as a wedding destination, with the new slogan, “Marry Me at Marriott.”
New York Consul General Senen Mangalile and entrepreneur Joel Cruz of Aficionado cited the significance of cultural representation and the notable contributions of Filipino talents around the world.
The much-awaited catwalk showcased awe-inspiring designs highlighting the Filipino designers’ innovative creations.
“Filipino talents are done blending in. We are more than ready to stand out,” said Rob Mallari D’Auria, FILIPINXT founder and CEO. Bessie Besana, co-founder and COO, is excited about the future of Filipino designers, saying, “FILIPINXT is paving the way for greater global recognition of Filipino talents by showcasing the dawn of a new era in Philippine Fashion.”
Contributing to the success of the FILIPINXT maiden show are Philippine Airlines, GMA Pinoy TV, Gretz Jewelry, Marriott Bonvoy, Takoyatea by Joel Cruz, White House of the Lord of Scents, Triple Twins LLC, Lumino Exquisite Display Advertising, Paperless PR & Creative Agency, La Belle Fete, Culture Style and Salon Lounge by Jim Ryan Ros, Joorio, New York Makeup Academy, AMRG Events by Monique Galang and RCC Staffing Solution USA. Their contributions played a crucial role in supporting the mission of FILIPINXT to promote Filipino culture and representation, organizers said.
Open call for Filipino designers
Gearing up for the New York Fashion Week, Manila to Manhattan LLC announced the call for designers for the FILIPINXT 2024 show this September. Designers interested in showcasing their collection are encouraged to be part of FILIPINXT 2024.
Organizers said they are looking forward to building on the success of the maiden show and continuing to serve as a beacon for Filipino talent, culture, identity and representation in the years to come.
FILIPINXT is more than just an event – it’s a movement, a platform empowering Filipino fashion designers worldwide.
